Fencing Classes at Blade Club

At the Blade Club, we have many programs to choose from for fencers of all levels. Generally, each student does one to two lessons a week (usually a group lesson where they can practice drills and spar with other people). Those seeking to improve faster or to refine their techniques may also choose to take one-to-one or individual lessons with the coach. For the students interested in performing fencing at a higher or more competitive level, we also offer high performance classes where the intensity and challenge in each lesson is significantly raised. Finally, we offer complementary nuitrition and combat fitness lessons where students perform physical drills to help strengthen and tune their bodies for explosiveness and general combat fitness.

We also offer short introductory workshops for individuals, groups, and organizations. For individuals and small groups, you may make an appointment for a short (1.5 hours per session, one to two sessions). If you are looking for a program for your organization, please contact us and we would gladly give you a proposal to suit your specific needs.

More recently, Blade Club has begun a "Fencing on Wheels" program where we offer a pick-up and drop-off service. For some of our students who may find it difficult to travel far, we will pick the students up from their school of study and send them to Blade Club for training. After training, the students are sent back to their school and dropped off.

Finally, for the June holidays, we are having several introductory fencing workshops aimed at school students of all ages. Each workshop will run for one session (1.5 hours) and will give each participant a concise and instructive insight into the sport.

In summary, the lessons are as follows:

Program Description Who Should Do This
Introductory Course Beginners learn about the sport and get an overview of the different types of fencing weapons. Basic attack and defence techniques will be taught, culminating with a chance to fence with real weapons. This is a introductory course that will give participants a concise and instructive look into the sport.
Group Lesson Fencers come together as a group to do training over 1.5 to 2 hours. Training includes everything from footwork to handwork, covering echniques and physical training. Fencers will be guided through drills in group or pairs and will also spar with each other. This is a fundamental class that all fencers should regularly do as part of their lessons. Fencers will be grouped according to their level of experience, from beginner to advanced.
Individual Lesson Fencers work directly and indvidually with the coach to do refinement of their techniques. Fencers who have hit a basic level of understanding and seek to improve faster. Also for fencers who wish to have personal attention to refine their movements and techniques.
High Performance The high performance program is really a combination of group lesson and individual lessons. Each high performance program consists of students that are tested before being accepted into the program. We expect a high level of committment from each participant and there is a minimum number of group and individual lessons that should be taken per week. Fencers who are aiming to be successful competitively and are aiming to represent their country in fencing competitions.
Fencing on Wheels This is not a fencing program by itself, but our add-value service for students who find it difficult to travel to and from our training facilities. Students are picked up from the school at which they study to train at Blade Club and are dropped off after training back at school. Students in schools who would like to be picked up from school to go for fencing training.
Nutrition and Combat Fitness This is a fitness program that combines a nutrition regime to help our athletes develop their physical fitness safely and efficiently. The goal of the program is to tune the body for combat fitness and to help raise the level of fencing. Students who want/need to strengthen their bodies for strong, faster, more explosive actions in combat sports such as fencing.
